ARFID in children generally presents through three distinct profiles, and a child may show features of more than one:

The first is sensory-based avoidance, where children gag, retch, or vomit in response to specific textures, smells, colors, or temperatures of food. They have extremely rigid preferences, and new foods can trigger genuine panic.
